I chose this book out of the choice of Amazon first Reads but all of the books you are trying to force us to read are all grim, depressing and psychological. What if we don't want to read this type of book? I am hoping this book has some redeeming qualities when they go to the woods to heal or whatever.. but seems like some UPLIFTING books would be good for SPRING/SUMMER. And by "uplifting" I do not mean religious books. ugh. I mean books that will not depress me. The mutual healing society...This is not a lighthearted read, but it's an engaging one. Chase is a stereotypical former child star mess. Olivia's a stereotypical therapist who could use a good therapist herself kind of mess. The characters don't start out particularly likeable, but they are interesting - & as the story unfolds, very sympathetic.Despite the initial stereotypes & some of the frustrating choices they make, the characters do become more fully fleshed out over the course of the story, and go through a lot of positive changes & personal growth by the endThere are several traumatic issues revealed (see author's note copied below) that the author handles with creditable believability, but still with sensitivityIt reads like women's fiction with some romance, so if you're looking for non-depressing, escapist fare, it does have a happy - though not entirely as you might have expected - ending.*Author's Note:Please note that this story includes some sensitive subject matter.
